We have had some
beautiful sunny, Autumn days – fabulous for
gardening, walking, enjoying the glorious colour
of the leaves and even kicking them as you walk
through them – brings out the child in you!
It is a good time to note the
Autumn tree leaf colour for future planning and
planting –
November 24th is the start of National Tree week.
As the garden is now in the throws
of being put to ‘bed’ for the next few
months, why not think of turning your thoughts to
some indoor planting and bring colour, perfume and
therapy into the home – a ‘feel good
factor’ to carry us through the shorter and
darker days…….
There is a huge choice of houseplants
from petite to grande. All shades of green foliage
and even some coloured foliage such as ‘Croton’
and ‘Begonia Rex’ look very attractive
standing in a lovely plant pot or basket to co-ordinate
with one’s colour scheme – plants for
dark and for light areas of the home.
Flowering houseplants usually
flower for a season and then hopefully after a rest
and T.L.C. should flower again.
The Phalaenopsis Orchid has become
incredibly popular and is much easier to look after
than one might think and yes will flower again and
again.
This time of year hyacinths (bulbs),
cyclamen and azaleas are favourites and will give
a lovely flash of colour but they do prefer a cool
area in the home and water from the bottom.
So many houseplants can be grouped
together for an indoor arrangement but do try to
group similar properties together i.e. light or
dark position.
These arrangements make beautiful
gifts and we will always try to help with any queries.
Of course we have come to the
time of year when the Poinsettia is a show stopper
– not just in red but now in several other
colours – which leads me to say
Happy Christmas to everyone
from all at Swanland Nurseries.
