September can
be a great month in the garden. The weather can
settle down to have some nice sunny days but whatever
the weather make the most of your garden.
It is a good time to sow new
lawns as the morning dew in normally enough to germinate
the grass seed. Worn areas of the lawn would also
benefit from a scattering of grass seed.
Continue to dead head the perennials
and roses. Keep the climbers tidy by tying in the
new shoots. French and runner beans should be cropping
well now. Keep on top of the picking and freeze
the surplus or give them away to your friends. Our
Cobra climbing beans have cropped really well this
year and I can certainly recommend them for next
year. We started picking them in July. Main crop
potatoes will need lifting later in the month particularly
if there are signs of blight.
September is the best month for
planting your Spring bulbs. Bulbs do offer good
value as they give superb Spring colour. If your
daffodils did not producing many flowers this year
think about replacing the. Don’t forget to
plant some Spring bulbs in your containers to brighten
up those March & April days.
